BECKY KINDER

Becky Kinder’s work is an exploration of growth and loss through ancient representations of women’s bodies. The figural form is based on prehistoric ceramic female figurines, sometimes referred to as fertility figures or Venus figures. Her work is deeply interested in how women are represented and how they represent themselves.
Kinder’s work is concerned with archeology, geology, growth, the body, reproduction, death and mourning. The ceramic sculptures are covered with or created out of a camouflage of foliage or baroque ornamentation, signs of heavy abundance, fertility and decay. The forms reference internal organs, organic growths, fungus, things that come out of the earth. In these works, the body becomes a porous space, a space that is inhabited, divided and transformative.
